Ever since I got engaged and decided to make my own engagement ring…(after all how can a guy buy a ring for a jewelry designer…talk about pressure)…I have been wanting to add an engagement line to Island Cowgirl.
I have created a lot of commissioned bespoke pieces for clients over the last few years but it has always been a dream to do a proper line where clients can see exactly the ring they were getting instead of only a sketch.
The samples are slowly being carved one by one and stones are painstakingly being chosen and set…and I am finally finding some time to breathe some life into this dream. I don’t think I have been this excited about something in a long time…short of getting my horse!
The signature pieces in this line will be our Halo Engagement Rings…They really have always been my personal favorite…and the inspiration comes from the engagement ring I made for myself when I married the love of my life three years ago.
We are going to be offering a variety of center stones from diamonds, to rare peach sapphires, to Moissanite to my new obsession…Octahedron diamonds!
Let me tell you a little bit about these lovelies. First of all, octahedron diamonds are diamonds in their purest raw natural form…before they are cut. An octahedron diamond has 8 facets and resembles a double pyramid shape. They were worn by Cleopatra and there is even speculation that they Great Pyramids were modeled on the beauty and rarity of these stones which were only worn by royalty and were believed to protect the wearer..
What people don’t realize is that traditional stone cutting, faceting and polishing of stones is only a few hundred years old. For thousands of years prior to that, diamonds and sapphires were used in their raw form…which is an octahedron. Their rich natural beauty was coveted and the process of setting each one was challenging and they were all unique.
Octahedron diamonds my have tiny inclusions and beautiful naturally formed facets where are part of a rough diamonds character and depth. Instead of a bright light and sparkle…a raw uncut diamond will have a more subtle beauty and glow…exactly how nature intended a diamond to be. I am obsessed with the untamed look and would be great for the free spirited, bohemian bride.
Shown above is our Juliet Halo Ring with a .75 ct Octahedron Diamond and our Ophelia Halo Ring with a .60ct diamond. Both have tiny hearts on either side. Made to order from our website in your size.
