“I am so glad I live in a world where there are Octobers…”
Fall in Leipers Fork by far my very favorite time of the year. The heat is lifted, the braids come out of my horses manes and the flies start to go off duty. It is glorious.
The horses also get a little more spring in their step. Pretty much the only downside is Mr. or Mrs. skunk that likes to reside under the barn begins his/her mating season. And you know who loves to chase skunks? Because he thinks they look like kitty cats. You guessed it. Nigel.
Well it just seems like a puppy sort of a week…not only do we have new puppy paw t-shirts but we also wanted to share with you one of our best selling rings. Our awesome Puppy Paw Ring.
After all…we all know how much we love our dogs. Wearing this ring is great way to be reminded of them when you can’t have them near. We even carved a little heart on either side ’cause we love them so much.
Available is sizes 6, 7 and 8 from our ever so easy to order from website. I spend a LOT of time coding the website so I am always extra excited when we get orders. A lot of people do not know that aside from being a jewelry designer and riding horses…I am also an uber nerd. Who would have thought?
October is the official Adopt a Dog Month…We are very excited to announce a jewelry fundraiser for “A Place To Bark“dog rescue.
A Place to Bark works tirelessly to save and rehabilitate abused and abandoned dogs. My friend Bernie Berlin saved over 1000 dogs last year alone. This is a worthy cause if there ever was one.

We would like to thank Nigel, our model, for modeling our Puppy Love Bracelet.
All you need is love and a dog…and maybe a red chicken…
This is Nigel, my Old English Sheepdog, constant companion and snuggler extroidinaire. And quite possibly the best dog that ever was.
He is the inspiration behind most of our dog inspired jewelry…and we love him so. Like our new Paws Forever Bracelet from our new Fall collection…For those of you that love your dogs as much as I do.
…our Elephant Necklace travelled off to a charity auction for the Ghetto Rescue Foundation in California…They were kind enough to send us a lovely thank you note and let us know the auction was a great success…
Thank you for all of the work you do for the dogs…we sure do appreciate it!
Who goofs off on the job? No silly Sallys around here! No sir! We get down to business!
This may appear to be a fluffy english sheepdog, but Nigel, he’s is all about focus! No shenanigans are tolerated while he’s on set! He directs production.
Oh and don’t let the eyes fool you… Bonnie Bell is our lead styling assistant here, she tries to stay behind the scenes.
It’s all quiet serious really. No funny business. WORK. WORK. WORK. Just kidding… We love this stuff and we laugh all day long.
Its good to be an Island Cowgirl!
Keep an eye out for our new lifestyle photography, coming soon to the site!
Its amazing how perfectly a color can translate an emotion. Each case now has its own fitting mood!
Our zen green case… exudes peace and inspiration.
Passionate pink. Of course.
The warm orange case… like a day of fun in the sun with your furry, tail wagging best friend.
The cowgirl case in brown… like a trip trotting down a small town dirt road.
We love the new vibrant look! A big thanks to Michelle, (our go to gal at our flagships store) she put this lovely color pop together! Great merchandising missy!
Introducing our newest baby cowgirl Abbot Kinney (Abbey for short)
She is such a little ball of fur. Nigel is still acclimating to having a baby hanging around the studio, but he seems to be warming up to the idea of having a new friend.
I mean look at that smile on his face he’s obviously enamored by her cuteness.
It’s our love of animals that serves for so much inspiration in the creative process here at Island Cowgirl. You look at a pair of furry, wet nosed angels like this and you cant help but think “fur is love” or have the phrase “unconditional love” come to mind.
Too precious. Especially with the 90 pound weight difference…. they are just the funniest pair. We’re all smiling ear to ear around here.
Heres hoping we could pass our smile on to you. XOXO
I know it sounds silly to some to celebrate a dogs birthday. But around here…we embrace silly.
…happy birthday Nigel
Three years ago today Nigel was born somewhere in Missouri. I wasn’t looking for a puppy at all. A puppy was the furthest thing from my mind.
For six months prior I had been nursing my Old English Sheepdog Dougal back to health. He was 10 1/2 years old and had broke his back. I had had him since he was six weeks old and he was born blind. He was the light of my life and my constant companion. On August 13th Dougal crossed over the rainbow bridge.
To say I was devastated was an understatement. My heart broke into a million pieces and for some reason losing this silly dog really took me out at the knees. I cried. Everyday. For months. Now I am not a big crier. I hardly ever cry. In fact I sometimes go years without shedding a tear.
But when I lost Dougal I cried so much that two months later I ended up in urgent care with such a severe sinus infection that I could not breathe through my nose or my mouth. Big problem. The Doctor said “you really need to stop crying…why don’t you get another dog..”.
Dumb idea. How could I? It was too soon. I couldn’t do that. That was crazy. But then along came Nigel. And when I first saw his face…somehow it felt right. And he was born the same day Dougal died. I felt that was a sign. We were meant to be.
Nigel- 3 weeks old
Nigel has healed me in places where I was broken. I love him to pieces and every year on this day…It is hard. I am so profoundly grateful for Nigel…and I am so profoundly sad at the loss of Dougal. And such is life…We love and we lose and we learn to love again…
Dougal N. Kraty 12/24/99-08/13/10
This was my dog Dougal. I loved him like nobody’s business.
He was blind but he saw with his heart. He ate rocks as a baby, so his teeth were chipped. But he still had the most beautiful smile and the courage of a lion.
His favorite two things in the world were going to the park and his Grandma Sheila. He loved tummy rubs, car rides and Pugsley’s. He made me smile every single day for 10 1/2 years. That’s a lot of love when you think about it all added up. Love times infinity.
He’s gone now…and I can still hear the sound of him not being here. I will always miss you Doodle-bug.
Say howdy to our little studio family, well most of it anyways…
This is a little peak at our behind the scenes of what we do here at Island Cowgirl… working hard and putting a little bit of love into every design.
We have such a wonderful & committed team, it is such a blessing to show up to this little creative home every week.
We get to see fluffy faces like this….
and this….
However, you can count on a guilt trip from Miss Bonnie if you don’t plan on sharing your lunch! Who could say no to those eyes?
We are constantly in the building process in the studio, whether it be making the actual jewelry its self, shooting out emails, taking/making phone calls, photography, and of course playing sprinkler monster with Nigel.
Work for many people is simply a means to an end… or it just fills up the daily space. We are proud to say we love our work family and we will strive to maintain this awesome experience in the studio, just as we will continue to strive to bring you our version of cool boho jewelry.
Oh…the many faces of Nigel. Also known as Nigelicious, Fat Face and Angel of Love…(AOL for short).
For those of you who don’t already know him, allow me to introduce our brand mascot Mister Nigel. Heather’s Old English Sheepdog…
And then of course there is Bonnie. Bonnie-Bell…who is not so amused at all by all the ruckus of the younger dogs here. She is a bit of an grumpy old lady…but we love her just the same.
All of us here at Island Cowgirl are dog lovers to the maximum degree. We believe dogs are just angels in dog costumes…and we love having them around. They make us laugh, give us a nice break in the day and most of all they are wonderful snugglers. Most of us have become impervious to dog slobber & dog hair…as a requirement of the job.
We are so blessed to work in a space that we can have our favorite animals running free, and stopping by to pay us little visits at our desks.
So much of our jewelry is influenced by this love of furry friends.
One of our favorites is our ‘Fur is Love’ Bracelet. It’s the perfect little ode to your best friend.
Dogs bring a smile to our faces and on a tough day… just make the world a little bit better.
