“life is getting up an hour early to live an hour more”…
Another brilliant summer sunrise at the farm…granted it is 5:30am and getting up this early is not for everyone. Well, pretty much not for anyone. But I will always get up and run across the pasture to capture my favorite purple sunrise. It is always fleeting…only lasting a minute or two over the far off ridge…but it is always worth it.
The heat this August was not overly oppressive…unless of course you have hair like Libby & I do. It is akin to wearing a heavy blanket on top of your head. Hair, more hair and more hair. So what better way to beat the heat than to wear the same matching braids. I think she kind of liked them!
Nigel got his usual short summer hair cut and was all ready for his morning duties to clear the pasture of birds.

Goat Yoga in Leipers Fork
My friends over at Gratidude Ranch here in Leipers Fork have a charity for foster children called Safe House. It is an awesome charity for children in the foster system and they work tirelessly to give these children a better life. They personally keep a petting zoo of 27 different animals on their property that the children can visit.
They came up with a wonderful idea of having Saturday morning Goat Yoga on their farm in order to raise money for their charity. Why not? They had lots of willing goats and a pig or two.
The hardest part of the whole thing was not laughing. Constantly. They were so darn cute and they wanted to snuggle. Although some people brought carrots and had an unfair snuggling advantage. We will be going back again next time for sure! Carrots in hand. If you have a chance check out their Safe House For All and the wonderful work that they do!
Sundance says don’t forget to stop and smell the sunflowers! (he’s ver wise…not just a pretty face)
Of all the bracelets we sell…this one is one of the ones that people will panic about the most if they lose it. I know because I get the emails. It has become a personal mantra to get them through their tough times or overcome their struggles and try to realize their dreams.
It is etched with one of my favorite quotes from Joan of Arc…“I am not afraid, I was born to do this.”
Does it really get any better than that? Sometimes that is just the reminder you need to put your fear aside and just move forward. So often we get stuck in a comfortable place and have a hard time moving past it to where our dreams lie. This bracelet can help…at least I have been told!
I have been working on some new t-shirt designs and of course the one thing I thought was missing was a dog paw…because we all know how much we love our dogs.
I am modeling the t-shirt in all my farm glory…and although you may see horse snot on it the actual color is heather grey with a dark grey paw. On the back there is the message “i love my dawg” written near the collar. (’cause its true)
You may order by calling the store directly at 714-580-9909. They come in sizes Small to X-Large…and are a pretty awesome cut. (ie…not super tight) I love them because they are super duper soft as well. We hope to have them on the website very soon! But in the meantime feel free to call the store. They are real friendly there. Southern hospitality and all.
I promise if you order one…yours will come sans horse and dog snot. Unless of course you would like it embellished and in that case Sundance charges extra.
One of our most popular bangles is our Fortune Favors the Bold bangle…not only do they make great gifts but you can stack them up with some of our other bracelets and wear your intentions on your sleeve.
I have always been a great believer that we make our own luck in life. Sure, there are ups and downs…but all too often we love to blame other people for our perceived lack of “luck” or fortune.
Make your own path. Create your own fortune. No one is holding you back…we all live in the same free country with the same opportunities.
Fortune really does favor the bold. And if you love the bangle we have a necklace to match…
October is Breast Cancer awareness month everywhere…especially here at Island Cowgirl. My mother is a Breast Cancer survivor so it really is a cause close to my heart. She was one of the lucky ones that managed to survive and thrive. My mom lost her mother to cancer when she was only 52 so it was a very frightening legacy to bear. Millions of other women have the same stories…
“Courage is different than Bravery. It is from the Latin word “Cour” which means heart…
The original meaning was “to tell the story of who you are with your whole heart”…
So really it is the courage to be imperfect. To have compassion. To be kind to yourself and others.”
I love this quote. A lot of people believe because I am so stoic most of the time that I am not afraid of things. Not entirely true. Actually not true at all. I am probably just better at hiding it than most. I am just as afraid as all the rest of you. Continue reading →
