Say howdy to our little studio family, well most of it anyways…
This is a little peak at our behind the scenes of what we do here at Island Cowgirl… working hard and putting a little bit of love into every design.
We have such a wonderful & committed team, it is such a blessing to show up to this little creative home every week.
We get to see fluffy faces like this….
However, you can count on a guilt trip from Miss Bonnie if you don’t plan on sharing your lunch! Who could say no to those eyes?
We are constantly in the building process in the studio, whether it be making the actual jewelry its self, shooting out emails, taking/making phone calls, photography, and of course playing sprinkler monster with Nigel.
Work for many people is simply a means to an end… or it just fills up the daily space. We are proud to say we love our work family and we will strive to maintain this awesome experience in the studio, just as we will continue to strive to bring you our version of cool boho jewelry.
We went a little bead crazy, necklaces and bracelets are strung with all sorts of gorgeous stones. Several of our new one of a kind necklaces were inspired by the rosary style, they can be worn as a normal necklace also.
We have super cute, funky, original one of a kind silver bracelets…
Each of our beaded bracelets is so detailed! Each stone was individually selected for its specific tone and shape, and every charm was selected to accent each unique color palate to create the perfect beaded charm bracelet.
Stop in to our Flagship store located on Main Street in Downtown Huntington Beach to get a closer look… or call in the speak with one of our sales people directly about purchasing these gorgeous one of a kind pieces…

Every year I go to Tucson in February to attend the Tucson Gem & Mineral Show. This show has been going on for over 37 years…and although it comes at the worst possible time…which is after Christmas madness, my tradeshow season and then right before Valentine’s Day…I have come to love Tucson in the winter. It is so calming & beautiful. And I also get to spend some time at one of my favorite places…The White Stallion Ranch.
The Tucson Gem & Mineral Show pretty much takes over the whole city. And when I say that I mean literally the whole city. There are about 20 different venues, tents & the convention center filled with amazing vendors from around the world. You can spend a week here and not get to see it all…It is a daunting task that is a cross between Christmas Morning and a very, very long Easter egg hunt.
Want to buy a rare pink diamond? Done. Not a problem. Looking for Lone Mountain Turquoise which is pretty much extinct…Got some of that too. How about a meteorite. Or dinosaur bones….That can be arranged.
Well, I went in search of a lot of different things….some refill stones for our production work. And anything unusual that I can find for my one of a kinds. Like these Pink Bubble Gum Sapphires…
And then came the diamonds.
A while back a very sweet guy emailed me and asked me to make an engagement ring for his gal. What touched me the most is how much in love he seemed with her…and I can relate as I feel the same way about my guy. So on my list this trip was a diamond that was going to be good enough for his girl…
He said he loved the ring I had made for myself and he felt that his girl would like something similar. He was looking for an unusual, organic engagement ring…and I knew he had come to the right place. We love to make Bohemian rings…with diamonds or otherwise.
I was up to the task…as what girl does not like have any excuse to buy more diamonds. Oh, did I find some beauties…but here are the three that I thought would be the closest to what he was looking for…I threw in the heart shaped one just because I am romantical like that…
I am excited to see what it will become when it is done, and I will be sure to share it with you after she sees it…And I hope his girl loves it as much as he loves her…
With all of the love floating around in the air it seems there is no better time to share a gesture of love with the people in your life. And what is a better way to someones heart then through their stomache?
I’ve been hunting for the perfect cookie recipe to create cute cookies for my loved ones. The perfect sweet treat…
This is it! The funky decorative options really sold me!
I stumbled upon this recipe on pinterest… It’s super cute and I can’t wait to make my own!
Beat shortening in a large mixing bowl with an electric mixer on medium to high speed for 30 seconds. Add granulated sugar, baking powder, and salt; beat until combined, scraping sides of bowl occasionally. Beat in egg, vanilla, and peppermint extract until combined. Beat in as much flour as you can with the mixer. Stir in remaining flour with a wooden spoon. Tint and shape dough as directed for each cookie variation. Place cutouts 1 inch apart on an ungreased cookie sheet. Bake in a 375 degree F oven for 8 to 10 minutes or until golden. Transfer to wire racks and cool. Makes 30 cookies.
Checkerboard Hearts and Bleeding Heart Cookies: Divide dough in half; divide one half in half again. Tint one quarter red and one quarter pink with food coloring. Wrap each portion in clear plastic wrap; freeze for 20 minutes. Divide plain potion into eight pieces. Divide each colored portion into four pieces. Roll each piece on a lightly floured surface into an 8-inch-long rope. Flatten each on four sides to form a square rope. For checkerboard design, place four ropes side by side on waxed paper, alternating colors with plain ropes. Top with four more ropes, alternating colors. Repeat two more times, forming an 8x8x2-inch dough block with a checkerboard pattern. Wrap in waxed paper and freeze 1 hour or until firm. Cut dough crosswise into 1/4-inch-thick slices. Cut a heart shape from each slice with a floured 2-inch heart-shape cookie cutter. Reserve scraps for Bleeding Heart Cookies. Bake as directed.
Checkerboard Hearts and Bleeding Heart Cookies: Mix dough scraps lightly with your hands so dough looks marbled. Roll dough on a lightly floured surface until 1/4 inch thick. Cut with floured 2-inch heart-shape cookie cutter. Bake as directed.
Inside-Out Cookies: Divide dough into three portions. Tint one portion pink and one portion red with food coloring. Roll dough, one color at a time, on a lightly floured surface until 1/4 inch thick. Cut with floured different size heart-shape cookie cutters. Using a smaller cookie cutter, cut hearts from the center of each cookie. Remove smaller hearts and interchange them so cookies have a contrasting colored heart in the center. Reroll dough scraps and repeat. Bake as directed.
New Wave Cookies: Cover and chill dough for 2 hours or overnight. Roll dough on a lightly floured surface until 1/4 inch thick. Cut with a floured 3-inch heart-shape cookie cutter. Place cutouts about 1 inch apart on an ungreased cookie sheet. Bake as directed. Transfer to wire racks and cool. Frost with Powdered Sugar Icing. Dry on a wire rack. Combine small amounts of the remaining icing and a few drops of desired food colorings. Place each color icing in a small sealable plastic bag. Decorate cookies with colored icings. Let dry.
Tis the season when we start making our limited edition & one of a kind jewelry available for everyone…far & wide. This is our “Into the Fire” bracelet which is pure love. Semi precious stones of carnelian, coral, moonstone & hematite are all carefully hand knotted on cotton cord…our square inspirational charm bearing the word “love” swings nearby.
Available on our website. Remember this piece of inspirational jewelry is a one-of-a-kind…so once it is gone…it is gone forever.
This week around the studio we have been doing a photo shoot for our new website…It has been a lot of fun…but we battled some rain, some cold, a big praying mantis that kept buzzing us…but our biggest challenge was trying to keep Nigel out of the pictures. He assumed that it was playtime and kept covering the ground at our feet with toys.
This is the way it went…put on bracelet, pose model, arrange jewelry, throw dog toy and then very quickly try to snap the picture before said dog with toy bounded back into the frame…and ruined the picture. Needless to say we have more pictures of blurry white and grey fur than we do of jewelry. He especially liked posing with our doggie jewelry…Here you see him with our “Love Has Paws” bracelet.
Then of course we had to deal with this silliness…Bonny. Bonny doesn’t move much so we didn’t have to worry about drive by fur shots…however her sleeping poses were pretty distracting.
All in all we had a lot of fun with the photoshoot….and look forward to sharing all of these great new shots with you on our newly designed website! Lots of new inspirational jewelry & cowgirl jewelry coming up!
….I spent the weekend working with all the amazing new stones that I had collected…my studio looked like an explosion of color…
This is one of the pieces I made…chosing chunky nuggets of aquamarine that reminded me of the seas of Bali…I found them from one of my favorite stone dealers that always had the most unusual stones. A big bright sun reads “live in the light” on the back.
This necklace is a One-of-a-kind and is 19″ long and solid sterling silver. It is available by phoning our store at 714-580-9909. $245.
….off to my gem dealers today to get some beauties for the holiday gold collection…here is a sneak peak at whats coming up!…cannot wait to get it all together…it will be decadent with lots of inspiration fro Bali…
Attention Peeps: Our uber popular wrap bracelets are back in stock! Everyone just loves these!~
Our original chocolate leather wraps have inspirational quotes… Our “I am not afraid” Bracelet quotes Joan of Arc…”I am not afraid, I was born to do this…”. One of my favorite quotes of all time. The Trust Yourself Bracelet says “when you trust yourself…you will begin to live…”. Hand stitched with brightly colored linen.
The newest addition to our wrap bracelets are our “From the heart” bracelet, “Said its Prayers” bracelet and Warrior wrap. These are dyed by hand after we have lovingly etched inspirational quotes on them….
…working on the new Summer 2012 collection & the new catalog…here is some of the layout…So high tech! Oil pencils and crayons…
The way it works is that we sketch out all of the new items that we are going to put in…and then we sketch out all of the one’s we think we are going to maybe put in…and then we make up samples of each.
At that point we do a first cut and figure out which one’s are fabulous…and which ones didn’t quite cut the mustard. Then we go through the previous year’s catalog and try to figure out which designs we are going to “retire”.
This process can go on for two months…if we are lucky! With many additions & subtractions! It is a fun process to see it all come together and it can also be extremely time consuming & difficult as designs we were sure were going to be the bomb…don’t quite come to life.
We hope to have the new catalog ready to ship at the end of June…Stay tuned!
We have been hard at work making some new designs for our Spring 2012 collection….which should be available in January. This uber-awsome ring is called “Love’s Shield” meant to protect all those who are destined to wear it.
Our new inspirational bangles…stack them up high…or mix them up with our leather bracelets…I personally cannot wait to get one of these for myself…My favorite being “fortune favors the bold”…
There is more to come…we will keep you posted as soon as they arrive!
We are hard at work on our new collection for Winter 2012…which will be launching at the AmericasMart Gift Show & NYIG in January/February.
Hearts are the theme…and also are our best sellers! We discontinued a lot of our older hearts to make room for the new ones…and you are going to LOVE them.
This is the wax for our newest bangle…on the inside it says “love your life with a true heart”.…
Also, we are making TONS of new inspirational rings…I think there are 7 so far…here are our wax carvings of two new ones…I cannot wait to see how they will turn out…
It has been such a big joy to begin designing again with our silver plated line in mind….the sky is the limit…I no longer have to be as concerned about price points and if something is going to be too heavy or not. It has really freed me up to create some crazy beautiful new pieces…
